Storm King Art Center 

DOCENT JOB DESCRIPTION 
Storm King Art Center docents help visitors discover and learn more about Storm King’s unique combination of monumental sculpture and remarkable landscape. Docents enjoy thorough training and then create and lead tours of Storm King Art Center for the general public and for organized groups.


Qualifications
  • successful completion of the Docent Training Program
  • ability to work and communicate well with a diverse audience
  • ability to perform responsibilities for the required periods of time
  • demonstrated interest in and ability to achieve knowledge of Storm King’s sculptures and landscape


Responsibilities
  • carefully prepare their tours
  • lead walking tours for individuals and groups
  • commit to at least one tour day a week and two Saturday, Sunday, or holiday Monday tours during Storm King’s season (April – November)
  • arrange for another docent to replace them if they are unable to meet their assigned scheduled tour
  • assist and encourage docent trainees as part of the mentor program
  • participate in Storm King’s continuing education by attending bi-weekly meetings and lectures
  • continue their personal education through research and visits to other museums
  • be accountable and professional while representing Storm King Art Center
  • Abide by relevant Storm King guidelines

Observation
Docents are observed and supported on an ongoing basis, and are expected to participate in follow-up training and review sessions with peers and staff.
