DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Director of Development - Duties and Responsibilities
- Reporting to the President of Storm King, work closely with the Director/Curator, Board of Trustees, particularly the External Affairs Committee, to shape strategy and secure funds.
- Work with senior management team, staff, trustees and stakeholders to enhance fundraising strategy and plan, and to broaden and deepen its base of support, and create greater financial self-sufficiency.
- Provide direction and coordination for philanthropic fundraising efforts to include: develop and expand membership, annual support, major gifts, foundation and government grants, corporate relations, planned gifts and special events.
- Maintain fundraising schedules, objectives, database and tracking systems; ensure that plans are implemented, goals are achieved and timely reports are generated.
- Establish and maintain the annual fundraising budget, set and meet realistic but aggressive income goals.
- Develop and grow a strong membership program to establish a base of annual support
- Evaluate development systems that support data management and all programs.
- Manage the development staff/functions and their activities in tandem with the visitor services functions to maximize the conversion of visitors to donors.
- Research, develop and create grant proposals in a range of funding areas.
- Oversee special events, donor cultivation events and fundraising gala events.
Director of Development - Qualifications
- Minimum of five to eight years progressively responsible development experience to include 3+ years managing or co-managing the function; experience in a cultural institution preferred.
- Ability to develop a comprehensive strategy that builds organizational capability, and a proven track record of competing successfully for philanthropic support.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to an organization's mission, and it's constituencies including audiences and donors.
- An understanding of financial needs and base of support, and the level of funding required to secure short- and long-term goals.
- Proven experience in the fundamentals of development operations and programming (membership, annual giving, proposal writing, foundation and corporate relations, and special events).
- Ability to manage large and significant development effort; success building the operation, managing budgets and building a team.
- Ability to work collaboratively, gain cooperation, influence and successfully drive initiatives across an organization.
- A strategic thinker and effective problem solver; able to focus on long-term goals while paying attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Excellent writing and communication skills especially as they relate to developing pitch letters, marketing collateral materials, and crafting funding proposals.
- Knowledge and understanding of existing relationships in the New York art and philanthropic world.
- Computer literacy in Sage and Microsoft Office.
- Degree in art-related field preferred.

TEMPORARY BOOTH ATTENDANT
As the first person guests encounter, the Storm King Booth Attendant serves as the face of the Art Center and sets the tone for an enjoyable visit. The attendant welcomes visitors to Storm King, collects their admission fee and distributes a map of the grounds. In addition, the booth attendant coordinates with the main office and security staff in welcoming pre-arranged VIP and group visits and in accommodating any special events or guest needs. The schedule for the Temporary Booth Attendant is Wednesday through Sunday [for up to 90 days].
Booth Attendant Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect admission fee through cash, credit card or check transaction
- Enter transactions in point-of-sale system
- Maintain cash drawer - open drawer in the morning, count and batch cash at night
- Answer visitors' general questions about Storm King (parking, hours, tours, events, etc.)
- Distribute maps and assist visitors with directions and navigating the property
- Welcome VIPs and vendors using list distributed daily from main office
- Communicate with other Storm King employees over radio
- Coordinate with safety officers to greet group bus tours
- Assist visitors who need special accommodation at the art center
Booth Attendant Qualifications
- Cash register and/or point-of-sale experience required
- Ability to communicate effectively and to interact with the public in a positive and friendly manner
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Experience working with visitors at an art, educational or similar organization is a plus
- Availability to work weekends
- Availability to work set, regular shifts 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM

STORM KING GUIDES
Storm King Guides assist visitors by answering questions and by providing information on Storm King exhibitions, artists and artwork, and assist the art center with protecting its property through observation and interaction with the visitors. Storm King Guides are stationed throughout the grounds at key visitor locations. If you love art, enjoy interacting with people, and enjoy being outdoors, this could be a great job for you.
Guide Duties and Responsibilities
- Answer visitors' general questions about Storm King (hours, tours, events, etc.)
- Assist visitors with directions and navigating the property
- Provide general information about sculpture locations and artist names
- Attend initial and ongoing training as required by Storm King management
- Assist with protecting Storm King property from damage by carefully observing visitors and interacting when necessary to prevent harm to Storm King property and works of art including contacting Storm King Security guards as required
- Monitor compliance with Storm King policies and address violations
Guide Qualifications

Demonstrated interest in the field of Art; college-related degree or working towards a related degree preferred

Interest in and ability to learn about Storm King’s sculptures, artists and property

Ability to communicate effectively and to interact with the public in a positive and friendly manner
