Ken & Julie

Acoustic folk duo made up of singer and songwriter, Ken DeAngelis and soprano, Julie Ziavras, accompanying themselves on guitar, will present original acoustic music and selected covers with gentle vocals, thought provoking lyrics, and rich harmonies. Named “the best folk singing duo – 2002” by the Times-Herald Record. Reviewers describe Ken’s songs as “poignant and heartfelt, personal yet universal in scope” and that Julie “wowed her listeners with her warm and compelling voice”. They will be joined by Barry Wiesenfeld on bass.

Barry Bryson and the Jazz Du Jour Quintet perform sophisticated jazz classics from Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington to Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane. Jazz Du Jour’s stylings are mellow and smart, up-to-date and delightful, bringing that cosmopolitan touch to the idyllic beauty of Storm King. Gary Nichols and the Ballistic Bovine Boys!

A four piece acoustic band, led by Gary Nichols from Nashville, Tennessee, will perform a unique blend of vintage popular standards and classic country, including a bit of western and cowboy music. Their arrangements of songs originally recorded by such legends as Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Eddy Arnold, Gene Autry, and others from that era are fresh, fun, and swingin’.

Woodwinds Rejoice in Nature

Join woodwind artist Helen Valdes in exploring the enchanting tones of the flute family. The rich tones of the concert featuring alto and bass flutes are certain to awaken your senses. The alto flute with its haunting voice is especially at home in this breathtaking setting. Hear stories of the flute’s evolution and relax to the mystical sounds of the pan flute from the mountains of Peru.

Cabello and Korimbata Samba

Come enjoy and learn exciting music and dance traditions of Brazil, including Maculele (stick dance of the sugar cane fields), Capoeira (African-based martial art and dance), and Samba. Participate with five members of this celebrated Brazilian group as they rhythmically invite you to join in this cultural journey. Each performance will be approximately 45 minutes in length.

Traditional Irish and Celtic Music

Sizzling fiddle, beautiful traditional songs, and a driving acoustic rhythm section are hallmarks of the Cady Finlayson Band. Winner of the President’s Award at the University of Limerick, Cady Finlayson has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Town Hall in New York City. Audiences delight in Cady’s music and enjoy her “spirited and soulful” fiddle playing.

The Mountainville String Quartet

This group of seasoned musicians has performed at other venues in the Hudson Valley, including the Middletown Art Center, Two Visions Gallery at Brotherhood Winery, the Museum of the Hudson Highlands, and Manitoga.  They have become well known in the Hudson Valley for their masterful renditions of classical selections by such composers as Mozart, Boccherini, Haydn, and Schubert. Come and enjoy the beautiful music in a unique atmosphere surrounded by art and nature.

Showstoppers

Award winning singer, composer, and actress, Paulette Attie will perform “Showstoppers” highlighting musical theater songs. These include “The Impossible Dream”, “Rock-a-Bye Your Baby”, and “On the Street Where You Live”. Ms. Attie received a letter of congratulations from President Bush for her song “United Are We”, composed and sung by Ms. Attie with 450 children (televised) at P.S. 1 on the one-year anniversary of 9/11. Ms. Attie will sing this song for us on this special day. She will be accompanied by Michael Tornick on keyboard. Mr. Tornick has conducted and/or played on Broadway in such shows as Les Miserables, Sunday in the Park with George, and Phantom of the Opera.

Swing Street Orchestra

This seven-piece orchestra plays favorite swing standards that are remarkably scaled down from Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and other giants from the Swing Era. “Swing Street is a band with a rare ability: It provides stirring jazz and dance tempos without compromising either one…” reports New York Newsday. This group of musicians will leave you shouting for more!

The Manhattan String Quartet

This critically acclaimed string quartet made up of Eric Lewis, Calvin Wiersma, John Dexter, and Chris Finkel, has been described by The Boston Globe as “a national treasure” and has appeared throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, and South America. Well known internationally for their interpretation of the fifteen string quartets by Dimitri Shostakovich, they will be performing three of these hauntingly beautiful quartets.
